Bionyeri co-founder and chairman, Mr Eng Liang Tan was recently featured in TIME Magazine outlining his vision for bringing Indonesian herbal medicine to the rest of the world.

Mr Tan sees the future for the prevention and treatment of ailments in herbal medicine due to a “considerable shift in consumer behaviour toward herbal remedies, driven by the desire for natural, safe and effective healthcare options”.

In 2024, Indonesia’s herbal medicine market was valued at around $2.8 billion and is expected to grow at 6 to 8 per cent each year for the next decade.

The projected growth, combined with government policies focused on local pharmaceutical development makes Indonesia an attractive market for investment in sustainable healthcare options.

PT SOHO Global Health, of which Mr Tan is chair, has positioned itself as a leader in the herbal health sector in Indonesia while his company, Soho Flordis International Health has a global reach in more than 50 countries.

With only five per cent of Indonesian plants identified for their medicinal value, Indonesia’s vast biodiversity of plants and marine resources provides a strong foundation for breakthrough therapies.

As an R&D company, Bionyeri is playing a critical role in combining traditional knowledge and modern research to develop new generations of natural therapies for pain and cancer.

Under the leadership of Professor Gilles Guillemin, we are proud to be part of this journey in bringing innovation and scientific validation to bring the benefits of Indonesian herbs to the rest of the world to improve the health and well-being of millions of people.
